From now to 28 February 2021, holders of AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend will be automatic upgrade to the KrisFlyer Elite Gold membership tier as well as 3,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles when you spend $5,000 or more on eligible purchases with your Card.
One requirement is to have a minimum spend of $300 at singaporeair.com, flyscoot.com or krisshop. As travel seems not possible at the moment, I believe krisshop is the only option to clock the $300 spend.
This fast track upgrade is available for both new to bank and existing customers of American Express.
Breakdown on miles earn
The AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend earns 1.2 mpd on local general spending and below are the breakdown on the miles you will get when you spend $5000 on the dot.

You will earn 3.2 KF miles per dollar and cap at $200 when you charge to your grab spending and not by top-up to your grab wallet.

Cardmembers who met the spending requirements will be expected to see their account being upgrade latest by 9 May 2021. The membership is valid for 12 months and to requalify you will need to accrue 50,000 elite miles.

Conclusion
I was targetted for $80 capital vouchers a few weeks ago and this offer will likely stack. I will definitely spend an additional $1112 to get this status upgrade.
It might be a white elephant status due to the restriction in air travel. Nevertheless, I believe SIA will have something for their members.
